I believe in intuitions and inspirations...I sometimes FEEL that I am right. I do not KNOW that I am. ~ Albert Einstein

SDS is the abbreviation for Self Development Strategy. The SDS - in contrast to a LDP, CPD and PLP - is the actual ToDO-list or action steps (PLP) which initiate TAKING ACTIONS that would result in obtaining one's objectives (reflected by a CPD) that would allow the obtaining of goals (reflected by a LDP) to manifest a desired path in life, keeping in mind that dreams without action leads nowhere, but action without dreams, frequently creates havoc and end-up in chaos.

Having its roots in a reliable and valid SWOT-analysis and authentic risk assessment (i.e. accumulated list of true KPA's), a SDS should focus and highlight the following 5W's&H

  • the WHO?: Responsible for success. We must be the master of our own ship and we are in control and responsible for our own destiny. It is up to us to decide what goes into our minds, to be accepted as truth. We should realize that in quest and strategy for growth, we are the one who has the motivation, determination and desire to move from where we are, to a place of contentment and inner peace… no other, nor any external factor can do the “job”. A healthy and balanced SDS “who”, is driven by a sound locus of control, cooperation and co-creation, originating from our strengths and the ability to manage our weaknesses accountably.
  • the WHAT?:- The what of a SDS depends on our own personal objectives, goals and preferences (reflected by our LDP & CPD). SDS “what's” could be anything that our heart desires… for example, becoming a Doctor, Engineer, Mechanic, Teacher or Entrepreneur; being happily married; becoming a great parent; be an exemplary manager; free from depression; free from addictions; free from any bad habits; more self confidence; more self esteem; a better self image; …etc. This list could go on indefinitely, but whatever our SDS “what's”, it originate from and depends on our LDP.
  • the WHEN?:- There should be a definite date set for completion (i.e. milestones and a finish line), without a fix “when”, nothing actually gets initiated or done and procrastination becomes a problem, which in itself, eventually becomes yet another derailing factor.
  • the WHERE?:- Must identify a location (i.e. opportunity), that should be either created or prepared to allow for productive SDS execution. In this case risk assessment information is very useful to identify what to be cautious and/or on the lookout for.
  • the WHY?:- Establish the actual purpose and meaning for our efforts, time spent and resources utilized. Because without a personal SDS “why”, we might quickly loose our motivation and the WILL to continue, especially in the face of possible adversities, opposition and/or obstacles.
  • the HOW?:- Indicate and establish the resources that we are going to use when implementing our SDS. Resources aren't limited to specific “approved” learning opportunities or materials only, it includes anything we aim to utilize as resource (provided there is a sound reason for it) to enhance self-development and growth. Thus, anything that cultivates self-development, forms part of the SDS “how”.

It is very important to realize that an authentic, reliable and valid SDS is a key component in our personal arsenal of “self-actualization and -development weaponry” with which we can initiate, establish, develop, enhance, expand and sustain specialized knowledge, as supported and directed by our vision, mission, value and legacy statements.
