Exploring, recognizing and understanding ourselves within an operational functionality context in order to create and continuously re-create ourselves, which - in itself - is the KEY for authentic self-actualization.

-analysis is an abbreviation for an assessment analyzing process to identify and determine our Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.

A personal LDP and reliable SWOT-analysis should happen hand-in-hand, because no SWOT-analysis has any significant value without the guiding parameters of a LDP and no authentic LDP can be accountably compiled in the absence of a contextualized SWOT-analysis. This often give rise to a potential catch-22 scenario and the question remains what should be first…. the chicken (SWOT-analysis) or the egg (LDP). However, its of little importance and merely of academic value, whether a SWOT-analysis leads to a LDP (&subsequent vision statement) or vice versa. As a matter of fact, both should be conducted simultaneously. This “parallel” approach will allow any individualOr groups of people, companies, organizations or teams for that matter. to compile a list of verified KPA'sKey Performance Areas to serve as a reliable source to ensure an accountable and responsible formulation of a subsequent CPD, PLP and SDS.

A responsible and accountable SWOT-analysis is only possible when sourcing from reliable and validated assessments (qualitative and specifically cumulative assessments) conducted. Such assessments - depending on the purpose and objective of the analysis - can be either be conducted by a specialistFacilitators, Locksmiths, Coaches, Psychologists, Teachers, Human Resource Officers, …etc. making use of various assessment tools available. or structured and conducted by the individual him/herself.

SW & OT-analysis mainly has a threefold purpose…

  1. To determine Strengths/Weaknesses (Key Focus = Archetypes) and Opportunities/Threats (Key Focus = Habitats) that would allow us to manage and actualize our personal potential more productively and limit the destructive influence or impact of blind spots, future shock and plenty of resulting traps in life by establishing a results mentality supported by accelerated learning.
  2. Using the information as collected and digested during an authentic SWOT-analysis, also provide us with the scope to conduct risk assessments to identify which factors, components, aspects or issues are either nourishing for or toxic to our personal growth, development, self-empowerment and psyche management strategies in a broader global context.
  3. Applying the information collected and digested to conduct a competitive analysis if and when necessary.

Without an accountable SWOT-analysis and responsible Life Development Plan, it would be very difficult - if not impossible - to map our way successfully through life.

When conducting a SWOT-analysis, be aware and cautious of the Dunning-Kruger effect, which occurs when we fail to realistically assess or judge our present level of competenceMore specifically, our incompetence at a task and thus consider ourselves much more competent than we actually are. The inverse also holds true: when we are competent, we tend to underestimate our own ability as compared to others. .
